Christmas wrap up:
- We went to the library book drop on the way to my parents’ house and while there encountered the most fetid odor we have ever smelled. It made poor Matt’s eyes water as he put the books in the book drop. At first I thought it might be the lady who had been putting raw liver in the book drop at it again, but they have video cameras now and the smell was beyond putrid liver. Let’s just say that I think something very large and possibly news worthy is dead in the small wooded area near the Brooklyn Park library. We almost called the police but were not sure if bad smells count as 911 worthy-there were some kids walking through the parking lot so surely someone else has noticed. Or else they will today!
- We went to my mom’s a little early and visited with Grandpop. He was right perky and told us stories of his grandpop getting drunk and trying to shoot his son-in-law (i.e. my grandpop’s uncle) through the ceiling when the son-in-law was walking around in their second floor.
- We also got a couple presents: money from Grandpop and Mom, cookies from my brother and our traditional boxes of Rheb’s Candy. I also got a bath bomb and dark chocolate Kissables. Matt got some new dark chocolate truffle filled Kisses.
- We had dinner: the stuffing was extra good but my mom tried out some prefab cheesecake stuff and it was bizarre. I don’t think it had real vanilla.
- We visted a while longer (the best part of being married is not having to wash holiday dishes! I’ve been upgraded to “guest”!) and then we went to Heather’s mom’s house for a while. It was fun to see Heather and meet her whole extended family (well, the women anyway, the men were all watching football) all at once.
- We came home and the dogs were so happy! Violet actually rubbed her head on my leg and cried a little she was so excited! Far cry from her normal quick wag and run to the backdoor to be let out we generally get. We weren’t gone any longer than we were normally when we would both go to work all day. I think that they are used to me being home with them all day and of course, they can’t tell time and it was overcast so it was pretty much dark all day so they had no way to tell how long we had been.
- We watched part of the Parent Trap with Haley Mills, which is one of my favorite kid’s movies. It’s really long and wordy! It wouldn’t fly today as a kid’s movie at all. We also made some mini burritos with some leftover tamale insides and small tortillas. We wanted to call them something that meant “small burrito” but were stumped because burrito already has -ito in it, meaning little. Burrito-ito?
