I am feeling better, finally. Yesterday we had an exciting trip to Target where I discovered that the Valentine’s Day theme this year is cupcakes. I had to buy some towels. They are too cute and under $4. They also had some cute Deery Lou stuff on sale, but not the carryon bag I wanted. Today we went to H Mart and bought tons of veggies, seafood and odds and ends and only spent $80. Not bad for a whole trunk full of food.

I am looking forward to our ’70s night extravagnza tomorrow- So far on the menu are Whatchamacallit (1976), Twix (introduced in the US in 1979), homemade California rolls (Ichiro Mashita, sushi chef at the LA Tokyo Kaikan invented the roll in the early 1970s), and fondue (nondessert fondue cookbooks first started appearing in the US in the early 1970s). We bought stuff for homemade broth, seafood and mini potatoes for the fondue today.

We are watching Private Parts (directed by Paul Bartel! I wonder if Mary Woronov might make an apperance), Marathon Man, Straight Time (slight Dustin Hoffman overload), O Lucky Man, Smile (I am most looking forward to this one) and Lovers and Other Strangers. We tried to stick to movies we either haven’t seen or haven’t seen in many years. I think we have a good assortment: satire, Nazi chasing, an allegory on life in a capitalist society, criminals, Paul Bartel.

I think tomorrow will be spent making dips for the fondue and getting everything ready. I am so excited I have a day off to prepare! I also wanted to make a ’70s dessert but am not sure what. Any suggestions?
