Matt didn’t get picked for jury duty. I rescheduled mine so I could go to the water hearing. Which turned out to be a big waste of time since they seem to have no idea what is causing the fluctuations in the bills and even less interest in finding out.

The problem is that every Spring we get a water bill that is twice as high as the other 3 quarters. We can’t figure it out. The outside water is not connected at this time of year so it isn’t like someone is diverting our water and filling a swimming pool or something. We are not watering plants or taking excessive showers. In fact, we’ve really cut down on our water use and use all those water saving things. The officer at the hearing kept saying that I must have a leaky faucet that I don’t notice. I told him we put bowls under the faucet to check for drips and there are none. He said that it would just go down the drain and I wouldn’t notice. Apparently he didn’t understand the concept of putting a bowl OVER the drain the check for drips.  He also kept saying that (just during this quarter, mind you) that I must be forgetting to turn the faucet off. He kept coming back to that until I finally told him that just didn’t make sense. I mean, some how the faucets drip because I forget to turn them off, for the same 3 months every year then suddenly in May I remember how to turn them off? That’s just illogical. And he kept saying someone must be stealing our water. Which, of course is impossible because I am here during the day and no one is breaking in to run water endlessly and again, the water outside is shut off until the end of May, from a switch in our basement. I had also mentioned that we had been away a couple weekends during that period and he said someone must be in our house using the water copiously while we were away. Uh, no. We lock the doors and no one else lives in our house. I am sure no one broke in just to use our water and left all of our valuables behind.

So basically they have no idea and kept trying to break me down using faulty logic. Yay Baltimore City. At least it doesn’t seem like an underground leak since the bill goes back down for the summer.

In good news: bought a pair of jeans at the Gap yesterday and a shirt, some drinking glasses, a seahorse apron and a pair of sailor pants at Anthropologie yesterday. And some more drinking glasses at Crate and Barrel. Why all the spending?? Our checks cleared and we made an enormous payment and paid off all of Matt’s credit cards. $50000+ in debt (all pre-me, so I am extra excited) gone in just over 3 years. You have no idea what a relief that is and how much money extra this means we will have each month.

Not much is going on around here besides the stultifying heat. It is 100 degrees here today. The humidity is only 45% though so it is more comfortable than it was this weekend.

Matt has jury duty today. I am not sure if he got picked up for a jury yet or what but I have to report on Wednesday myself. I am hoping that the fact that I have to appear in water court (contesting our huge water bills) on Thursday will get me out of being selected. I’ve waited over a year for the water court hearing so I really don’t want to miss it.

We still haven’t gotten our stimulus check yet-something about having our tax prep fees taken out of our return- so we haven’t bought the bike we picked out yet. Which is disappointing because it is already really hot and I wanted to get some use in before the Summer.

I can’t wait until Matt gets paid tomorrow and I can go to the store. My check from my ads came late and hasn’t cleared yet and some other checks that we’re expecting are really late and we had done a lot of shopping when Matt got paid 2 weeks ago (thinking we were getting all these checks in the mail) so we are trying not to spend anything until he gets paid. Which means all we have in the vegetable bin is one cucumber, 1/4 head of cabbage, some lettuce and 1 broccoli crown. What can I make with that? It is too hot to think and be creative.
